New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson has stirred controversy by appearing to endorse former Chicago Bulls guard Jaden Ivey's anti-LGBTQ statements. Ivey was waived by the Bulls after criticizing the NBA's celebration of Pride Month, calling it "unrighteousness." Henderson responded to Ivey's release by posting a Bible verse about persecution for righteousness.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addressed Henderson's tweet, acknowledging a "fine line" between personal expression and team responsibility. Vrabel stated he loves Henderson as a person and respects his faith, but emphasized the importance of education and inclusivity within the team. He added that players' actions represent more than themselves and the organization.
Vrabel indicated he has spoken to players about such matters but did not suggest Henderson would face team punishment. Henderson, a 2025 draft pick, had a strong rookie season with 911 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He is anticipated to have a larger role next season.
