The WNBA All-Star Game is making a highly anticipated return to Chicago, marking the second time the city has served as the host for the prestigious mid-season celebration. As the league commemorates its 30th anniversary, the event promises to be a centerpiece of the basketball calendar.

Top-tier talent, including household names like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Breanna Stewart, Paige Bueckers, and A'ja Wilson, will be center stage to demonstrate their elite skills for fans.

Venue and Logistics

The 2026 showcase is set for Saturday, July 25, at the United Center. While Chicago previously hosted in 2022 at the Wintrust Arena, this year’s move to the United Center—home to the Bulls and Blackhawks—significantly increases capacity to over 23,000 spectators. Additionally, players will participate in media sessions and practice drills at the recently inaugurated Obama Presidential Center.

Event Schedule

The festivities extend beyond just the main game. Fans can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the weekend:

  • Thursday, July 23: The "WNBA Live" fan festival kicks off at McCormick Place (4-8 p.m. ET).
  • Friday, July 24: WNBA Live continues (9 a.m.-6 p.m. ET). Later, the Skills Night at Wintrust Arena (8 p.m. ET) will feature the Shooting Stars challenge and the 3-point contest.
  • Saturday, July 25: WNBA Live runs from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. ET, leading up to the main WNBA All-Star Game at the United Center at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Team Rosters and Drafting

This year’s edition featured a unique selection process. Legends Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon served as general managers. Following a coin flip to determine team assignment for top vote-getters Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, the two managers drafted their respective squads.

Team Cynthia Cooper Highlights: Notable starters include Paige Bueckers, Breanna Stewart, and Kelsey Mitchell, with Angel Reese and Kelsey Plum featured among the reserves.

Team Teresa Weatherspoon Highlights: Led by starters Caitlin Clark, A'ja Wilson, and Aliyah Boston, with a strong supporting cast including Rhyne Howard and Jonquel Jones.

Competitions and Compensation

The 3-Point Contest will feature sharpshooters such as Bridget Carleton and Marina Mabrey, while the Shooting Stars challenge includes league legends like Elena Delle Donne and Lauren Jackson paired with current stars.

The league has significantly increased the financial incentives for players this year. According to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement:

«Players now receive $15,000 for All-Star participation, with an extra $20,000 for the MVP. Winners of the 3-point contest can earn up to $30,000, including supplemental bonuses provided by Aflac.»

This represents a substantial increase compared to previous years, where participation fees were significantly lower.

Fans can catch the action live on ABC and Disney+. Pre-game coverage begins with "WNBA Countdown" on ESPN and ABC thirty minutes before the tip-off, and both networks will provide post-game analysis.
