When asked how to alter the view that things consistently go wrong for the Browns, Monken's response was straightforward. "Winning. It changes everything," Monken said. "How do we stop the narrative on offense? Score. How do you stop the narrative of winning? Win. It's pretty simple."
The Browns have not had a head coach finish his tenure with a winning record since Marty Schottenheimer, who went 44-27 between 1984 and 1988. Monken recognizes this history and emphasizes that on-field success is the sole solution to rewriting the story.
