New Leadership in Chicago

The Chicago Bulls have reached a decision to appoint Tiago Splitter as their next head coach, according to reports from ESPN. This move marks a significant transition for the organization as they look toward the future.

Transition from Portland

Splitter steps into this role after serving as the interim head coach for the Portland Trail Blazers. He assumed those duties following the departure of Chauncey Billups, who was placed on leave due to his alleged involvement in illicit poker activities.

During his tenure in Portland, which began shortly after the start of the regular season, Splitter guided the squad to a 42–39 record. His leadership was instrumental in securing the team's first appearance in the play-in tournament since the 2019–2020 campaign. Ultimately, the season concluded with a 4-1 series loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the postseason.

Background and Coaching Experience

Before his recent experience in Portland, Splitter built a diverse coaching resume. His professional journey includes:

  • Serving as an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets
  • Coaching roles with the Houston Rockets
  • International experience with Paris Basketball
  • Leading the Brazilian National Team as head coach

Playing Career

At 41 years old, Splitter brings a wealth of experience from his time as a professional athlete. Notably, he captured an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Throughout his playing career, he also spent time with the Atlanta Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers, as well as competing in various international leagues.
