Rotation Challenges for OKC
The Oklahoma City Thunder are facing further roster instability heading into Game 4 of the Western Conference finals. After playing the previous matchup without Jalen Williams, the team has announced that starting guard Ajay Mitchell will be unavailable for Sunday's contest.
According to the official NBA injury report, Mitchell sustained a right calf strain that forced him to leave Friday’s game prematurely. Meanwhile, the status of Jalen Williams remains uncertain, as he is currently listed as questionable due to a lingering hamstring issue.
Impact on the Series
The Thunder currently hold a 2-1 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs. Despite the personnel setbacks, the team showcased significant depth in Game 3, with the bench contributing an impressive 76 points in the absence of key starters.
Mitchell’s absence represents a notable blow to the rotation. The sophomore guard, who placed fifth in the Sixth Man of the Year voting, proved his value during the previous two rounds of the playoffs by averaging 21.2 points and 5.3 assists across six games while Williams was sidelined.
Adjusting the Lineup
Should both Mitchell and Williams be unable to suit up, the coaching staff will need to reshuffle the starting lineup. The team has several reliable alternatives, as demonstrated by the performances of Jared McCain, Alex Caruso, and Cason Wallace during the last game. Each of these players logged at least 24 minutes on Friday, proving they are capable of stepping into larger roles.
Game 4 is set for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, with broadcast coverage provided by NBC and Peacock.
