Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has dismissed the significance of a heated sideline exchange with guard Luka Dončić, labeling it a "very normal" part of competition. The incident occurred during the Lakers' 129-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.
After being substituted out, Dončić initially avoided Redick on the sideline, prompting the coach to follow him to the bench for a discussion. Teammate Jarred Vanderbilt intervened to prevent further escalation. Video of the moment sparked speculation on social media about a rift between the coach and his star player.
Addressing the media ahead of Tuesday's game, Redick emphasized his strong relationship with Dončić. "I didn't think much of it at the time," Redick stated. "He and I have a great relationship... It's a competition. And there are two guys here who are trying to win a basketball game and be on the same page."
Despite the argument, sources confirm the pair maintain a close bond. The Lakers have since rallied, winning three consecutive games, with Dončić scoring at least 26 points in each contest.
