Focus on Long-Term Health
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has officially confirmed his absence from this year's Wimbledon championships. The decision follows a prolonged struggle with a right wrist injury, which has already forced the young star to withdraw from the 2026 French Open scheduled for later this month.
The injury originated during the Barcelona Open in April. Since that time, Alcaraz has been forced to sit out several prestigious events, including the Madrid Open and the Italian Open. Keeping his professional longevity in mind, the 23-year-old expressed a cautious approach to his return, noting that rushing back could jeopardize his future career prospects.
«I have a very long career ahead of me, with many years still to come. Forcing things at this Roland Garros could really harm me for future tournaments,» Alcaraz stated previously.
A Significant Absence at the All England Club
This withdrawal marks the first time Alcaraz has missed Wimbledon since beginning his professional career in 2020. While the tournament was canceled that year due to the global pandemic, Alcaraz made his debut in 2021, reaching the second round. His trajectory at the grass-court major has been impressive:
- 2022: Reached the fourth round.
- 2023: Secured his first Wimbledon title.
- 2024: Successfully defended his championship.
- 2025: Reached the final, ultimately losing to Jannik Sinner.
Looking Toward the Future
Despite the setback, Alcaraz had a strong start to the 2026 season, highlighted by his victory at the Australian Open against Novak Djokovic. However, missing two major tournaments in the same calendar year is a rare hurdle for the Spaniard, occurring for the first time since 2020.
As the tennis community awaits his return, all eyes are now on his recovery progress. Supporters and analysts alike are closely monitoring whether the star will be fit to participate in the 2026 U.S. Open, which is slated to begin in late August.
