A Major Investment in Bruin Football
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has announced a significant financial boost for its football program. According to reporting from Ben Bolch of the California Post, alumnus and dedicated supporter Angelo Mazzone III has committed $10 million to the university.
The donation is designated to endow the head coaching position and bolster critical resources aimed at improving the overall success of student-athletes. This funding arrives as Bob Chesney prepares to begin his tenure as the Bruins' head coach in 2026.
Honoring a Longtime Supporter
Mazzone’s connection to the university spans decades, beginning with his time as a student where he earned both his bachelor’s and law degrees. His history of philanthropy at UCLA dates back to 1977. His dedication to the team is notable, having attended nearly every home game and missing only ten away games over the past 60 years.
Reflecting on his motivation to give back, Mazzone stated:
«UCLA has been responsible for all the greatest things that have happened in my life. Much of what I have accomplished is going right back there. I am indebted to the relationships I’ve enjoyed with so many very special people as part of the UCLA Football family.»
Impact on the Future of the Program
The athletic department expressed deep appreciation for the contribution. Head coach Bob Chesney noted the significance of such a gesture:
«A gift of this magnitude from such a dedicated, impactful and cherished member of the Bruin family is deeply humbling. Angelo’s commitment reflects an unwavering belief in what this program stands for. We will work every day to honor that trust.»
UCLA Athletic Director Martin Jarmond also highlighted the importance of the gift for the long-term health of the team. «On behalf of UCLA Athletics, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Angelo for this extraordinary commitment to our football program,» Jarmond said. «This generous gift strengthens the foundation of our program, not only for the Bruins of today, but also for future generations.»
