Players Propose a New Look
According to information reported by The Athletic, members of the roster have formally suggested that the franchise incorporate alternate uniforms for the first time in its history. Anonymous players have specifically proposed wearing their navy-colored batting practice jerseys during select road games. Currently, these garments are provided to players for pre-game activities, but they are not sanctioned by Major League Baseball for use during official competition. For this proposal to become a reality, the league would need to grant formal authorization for the new gear.
The Decision Rests with Ownership
The realization of this request remains contingent on the stance of team owner Hal Steinbrenner. While the Yankees have historically resisted major visual changes, there have been signs of a shift in organizational philosophy. Most notably, Steinbrenner oversaw the elimination of the team’s longstanding anti-beard policy in 2025. Additionally, the club has implemented minor, subtle adjustments to their apparel in recent years.
Setting Aside the 'City Connect' Trend
Adopting an alternate in-game jersey would represent a significant evolution for the organization. As it stands, the Yankees are one of the last two teams in the league that have not participated in the MLB “City Connect” uniform program, with the other being the Oakland Athletics as they navigate their relocation to Las Vegas.
