It has become increasingly evident that holding ownership in an NFL franchise is a highly profitable venture. Recent developments confirm that team values have reached historic heights, with two major clubs seeing valuations surpassing the $10 billion threshold.
Las Vegas Raiders Stake Sale
On Tuesday, NFL owners authorized the sale of minority interests in both the Las Vegas Raiders and the Miami Dolphins. According to reports, Raiders owner Mark Davis successfully sold a 7% share of the team to Silver Lake co-CEO Egon Durban and Discovery Land Co. founder Michael Meldman. This transaction was based on a valuation of $11.1 billion, resulting in a total purchase price of $777 million.
Miami Dolphins and Related Assets
Simultaneously, Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross finalized the sale of a 1% stake in a diversified portfolio that includes the franchise itself, Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Grand Prix, and a portion of the Miami Open. The stake was purchased by Bin Lin, co-founder of the technology company Xiaomi. This deal was anchored to a valuation of $12.5 billion, meaning the 1% share was acquired for $125 million.

These figures underscore the rapid appreciation of professional sports teams. For comparison, when the Washington Commanders were sold in 2023, the franchise was valued at $6.05 billion. Currently, the Dallas Cowboys are estimated to be the most valuable sports team in the United States, with an approximate valuation of $12.8 billion.
