Injury Concern During Game 2
During the final minutes of the New York Knicks' 108-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 2, forward OG Anunoby appeared to sustain a right leg injury. The incident occurred with just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter while Anunoby was cutting to the basket.
After receiving a pass from teammate Josh Hart and attempting a dunk—which was blocked by Paul George—Anunoby was seen clearly struggling to move as he transitioned to defense. Recognizing his inability to continue, he signaled to the coaching staff to be substituted out. Head coach Mike Brown quickly brought in Miles “Deuce” McBride, and Anunoby headed to the locker room, not returning to the floor for the remainder of the contest.
Uncertainty Surrounding Anunoby’s Status
Following the game, Coach Brown stated that he had received no immediate information regarding the severity of the injury. When asked for an update, Brown noted: «I haven’t talked to anybody. They didn’t say anything. He looked like he was hopping.»
The head coach confirmed that he had not yet consulted with the team’s medical staff and remained uncertain if Anunoby would require further testing or how long he might be sidelined.
Impact on the Knicks' Playoff Campaign
Anunoby’s potential absence would be a significant blow to New York. Before his departure, he had delivered an impressive performance, recording 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, along with 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists in 37 minutes. Throughout the 2026 postseason, he has been a vital contributor, posting high efficiency and maintaining one of the best plus-minus ratings on the team.
The veteran’s versatility was on full display during Game 2, particularly when he was utilized as a small-ball center due to rotation issues involving teammates Mitchell Robinson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Ariel Hukporti. Reflecting on Anunoby's role, Brown praised his unique skill set:
«At that size and athleticism and IQ, feel, two-way player — you want a guy like OG on your team. He’s — like a few other guys on our team — the ultimate definition of sacrifice, where you just go and do your job as best you can to try to help the team win.»
As the series progresses, the Knicks remain in a wait-and-see mode. When asked about the prospect of playing without him, fellow teammates like Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns expressed that they would assess the situation once more information becomes available.
