The Golden State Warriors are preparing for significant changes as two of Steve Kerr's most prominent assistant coaches, Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse, will not be returning for the upcoming season. According to reports, both coaches have concluded their two-year tenures with the franchise as their respective contracts reached their expiration.

Seeking New Leadership Roles

The primary motivation behind these departures is the pursuit of head coaching positions. With Steve Kerr recently securing a lucrative two-year contract extension, the top job in Golden State is unavailable, leading both Stotts and Stackhouse to look for opportunities elsewhere in the league.

Terry Stotts, who served as the team’s lead assistant and offensive coordinator, brought a wealth of experience to the organization, having previously led teams such as the Portland Trail Blazers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Atlanta Hawks. Reflecting on his time in San Francisco, Stotts stated: «I enjoyed my time with Steve, the staff and players. My two years there were fulfilling. Nothing but well-wishes.»

Jerry Stackhouse, who functioned as the defensive coordinator, also brings extensive leadership experience to the market, including previous head coaching roles with Vanderbilt and the Raptors 905 in the G League.

The Road Ahead for the Warriors

These departures follow the mid-season exit of long-term assistant Chris DeMarco, who transitioned to the WNBA to become the head coach of the New York Liberty. To address these vacancies, the organization is reportedly considering candidates such as former New Orleans Pelicans head coach Willie Green, who served on Kerr’s staff from 2016 to 2019.

The coaching staff turnover is merely one facet of a potentially transformative offseason for the Warriors. Expectations are high that the front office will look to reshape the roster around Stephen Curry, with discussions potentially involving the future of players like Draymond Green, who publicly addressed the likelihood of roster adjustments following the team's elimination from the NBA play-in tournament.
