Former Colorado tight end Christian Fauria has launched a scathing critique of Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, stating he is "not a fan" of the Pro Football Hall of Famer's coaching. Fauria made the comments on the "Zach Gelb Show," expressing deep dissatisfaction as Sanders enters his fourth season in 2026.
"I just don't like the way he coaches football," Fauria said. "I don't think he's very bright. I don't think he can manage a game. I think there's a lot of flash but there's no substance. And he's got a lot of people brainwashed." Fauria, whose son Caleb played for Colorado before transferring, also criticized Sanders' focus on relevancy over winning.
Colorado's performance under Sanders has been mixed. After a promising 9-4 season in 2024 featuring a Heisman Trophy win for Travis Hunter, the team regressed to a 3-9 record in 2025. Overall, Sanders' record at Colorado stands at 16-21 through three seasons, a period during which he also coached while undergoing treatment for bladder cancer.
Fauria admitted it is historically difficult to win at Colorado but argued Sanders' approach is flawed. "If relevancy... is what you want, then congratulations, you've achieved it," Fauria stated. "But I just don't know if that's the end goal... Or do you want to win games?" He concluded that in his view, Sanders' victories are "hollow" if the primary focus is merely being talked about.
