A Strategic Shift at Indiana's Pro Day
As the presumed number one overall selection for the 2026 NFL Draft, Fernando Mendoza had little to prove to NFL scouts regarding his own stock. Instead of focusing solely on his personal performance, the standout quarterback opted for a selfless strategy during Indiana’s Pro Day on Wednesday, performing in front of representatives from all 32 NFL franchises.
Supporting the Supporting Cast
During the session, Mendoza completed approximately 56 passes. Following the workout, he clarified that his primary motivation was to provide his teammates with the best possible platform to catch the eyes of professional scouts. By executing a high volume of throws, he aimed to ensure that Indiana's wide receivers and tight ends could demonstrate their abilities within the timing and structure expected at the professional level.
«You know quarterbacks have passed, have done shorter pro days than that. However, I just wanted to make sure everybody could showcase their abilities in front of all 32 NFL teams and really run routes that are applicable to the timing we’re going to be running in the NFL,» Mendoza stated, as reported by Michael Marot of the Associated Press.
Reflecting on a Successful Campaign
Mendoza noted that he approached the event with a sense of appreciation for the 2025 season he shared with his teammates at Indiana. With their collegiate achievements now firmly in the rearview mirror, Mendoza now enters a three-week waiting period. He awaits the 2026 NFL Draft, where he is expected to be selected by the Raiders, while simultaneously tracking where his former teammates will continue their professional journeys.
