With only one month remaining until the highly anticipated UFC event at the White House, preparations have kicked into high gear. U.S. President Donald Trump hosted the marquee fighters of the card on Wednesday at the Oval Office to debut an exclusive championship belt crafted specifically for the occasion. The design pays homage to the nation's upcoming 250th Independence Day, prominently featuring the American flag.
Fighters Gather at the Oval Office
The president was joined by four major stars set to compete on June 14 in Washington, D.C. Lightweight champion Ilia Topuria and former dual-weight titleholder Alex Pereira were present alongside their respective challengers, Justin Gaethje and Ciryl Gane. During the presentation, President Trump praised the athletes, while also highlighting Gaethje, the only American fighter in the group. This prompted a lighthearted comment from Topuria, who jokingly remarked to the President: «Why you want to give the toughest test to a friend of yours?»
Logistics and Public Access
UFC CEO Dana White has previously noted the unique challenges of organizing an outdoor sporting spectacle on the White House grounds. Although the primary event site will be restricted to a limited audience of 4,500 guests, organizers have made provisions for a broader crowd. Fans will have the opportunity to gather at The Ellipse, a nearby venue capable of holding up to 100,000 spectators, where the matches will be broadcast on massive screens at no cost.
'UFC Freedom 250' Vision
In addition to the belt reveal, the President shared insights into the scope of the project, officially titled 'UFC Freedom 250.' Expressing his enthusiasm for the collaboration, Trump stated: «I think it's going to be the biggest event we've ever had at the White House. The White House doesn't really do athletic events for the most part. These are all the greatest champions. They’re the greatest fighters in the world.» He further emphasized the inclusive nature of the gathering, noting that the event is open to the public and will be provided free of charge.
