The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without star closer Edwin Díaz for an extended period. The team placed the pitcher on the injured list due to 'loose bodies'—fragments of bone or cartilage—in his right elbow.

Díaz is scheduled for surgery to clean out the joint and is projected to return after the All-Star break in the second half of the season. To fill his roster spot, the Dodgers are calling up pitcher Jake Eder.

Díaz joined the Dodgers this past offseason on a record three-year, $69 million contract after six seasons with the New York Mets. In 2026, he has made seven appearances, recording four saves but struggling in his last two outings, which saw his ERA rise to 10.50.

The team hopes for his full recovery and return in approximately three months.
