A Resounding Return to Form

Alexa Grasso made a powerful statement at UFC Seattle this past Saturday, officially getting back into the win column with a dominant performance. The former women's flyweight champion halted Maycee Barber’s impressive seven-fight winning streak, showcasing both power and precision.

The Decisive Finish

The fight ended abruptly in the opening round when Grasso landed a thunderous left hook that left Barber stunned. As Barber began to collapse toward the canvas, Grasso immediately capitalized, transitioning smoothly into a rear-naked choke. Referee Mike Beltran intervened swiftly to halt the contest, protecting the unconscious Barber.

Following the stoppage, there was a moment of concern as Barber remained still on the mat for some time, with Grasso staying by her side in a display of sportsmanship. The sequence of events is already being hailed by many as a top contender for the Knockout of the Year award.

Reflecting on the Victory

Barber was eventually able to recover and was present for the official decision, where the two athletes shared a respectful embrace. This victory marks Grasso’s first triumph in over three years. Her last win prior to Saturday was her championship-clinching victory over Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285 in early 2023, followed by a challenging run of a draw and subsequent losses.

«I’m back. Alexa without injuries is different. I’m so happy. Of course my striking is always the first weapon, but I was training so hard to get a finish by submission because I trained jiu-jitsu a lot. I wanted the finish,» Grasso remarked during her post-fight interview.

Future Ambitions

While Grasso chose not to call out a specific future opponent, she did leverage her moment in the spotlight to appeal to UFC leadership. She expressed a strong desire to bring an event to her hometown of Guadalajara for this year’s installment of Noche UFC, directly addressing CEO Dana White and CBO Hunter Campbell with her request.
