A Major Shake-up in Representation

As the free agency period approaches, Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has made a pivotal professional decision. According to reports, the infielder has terminated his business relationship with prominent sports agent Scott Boras.

This transition occurs while Bohm is embroiled in a contentious legal dispute with his parents. Legal filings indicate that the player is attempting to recover $528,618, which he alleges his parents withdrew from one of his brokerage accounts earlier this spring.

The Origin of the Conflict

The roots of this legal friction appear to be tied to Bohm’s professional representation. Documents suggest that the player previously felt compelled to switch to Boras in 2020 under significant pressure from his parents. Bohm contends that his parents pushed for this change to serve their own interests, rather than his, following a disagreement with a financial advisor suggested by his former agent, Nick Chanock.

Following his split with Boras, Bohm has officially rehired Chanock. This organizational shift comes at a critical time, as the 2024 season represents a contract year for the 27-year-old athlete. So far, Bohm has struggled at the plate, posting a slash line of .155/.231/.224 through his first 15 appearances.

Boras Responds

Despite the abrupt nature of the professional separation, Scott Boras maintained a diplomatic stance regarding his former client. In a statement provided to the media, the super-agent noted:

«We wish Alec well. We know it’s a difficult time. He was always very appreciative of our work, especially our recent arbitration victory, and we are grateful for the privilege to work with him for the past six years.»

Outlook on Free Agency

Throughout his seven-year professional tenure, Bohm has established himself as a reliable player known for a high batting average and consistent, albeit moderate, power production. With a career slash line of .276/.325/.411, he is expected to secure a respectable deal when he eventually reaches the open market, even if he is not currently viewed as a top-tier marquee free agent.
