Building on Historical Recruiting Success
Following a historic recruiting cycle that saw them secure their first No. 1 overall class in twenty years, the USC Trojans are demonstrating that their recent success was no fluke. After a dominant performance in the 2026 cycle—where they signed seven prospects ranked in the national top 60—the program is aggressively targeting elite talent for 2027.
Strategic Flip Strengthens Trojans' Roster
The Trojans' 2027 recruiting class received a significant boost this past Saturday when four-star offensive tackle Drew Fielder announced his decision to flip his commitment from Oregon to USC. Having visited the Los Angeles campus multiple times in recent months, the highly-rated local prospect chose to keep his talents close to home.
Regarding his decision to switch schools, Fielder expressed deep respect for his former commitment, stating:
«I really loved Oregon, this wasn’t anything against them. USC is the only school I would have de-committed for. This is a dream opportunity for me and one I just couldn’t pass up. Ever since I was a kid, USC was the dream for me. I’ve talked about it before, my dad went there and my grandfather and great uncle won a National Championship as well. Not many players get to live out their dream but I do so I’m obviously very excited right now.»
Dominance in the Local Market
Fielder’s commitment is a major strategic win for Lincoln Riley’s staff as they work to secure the best prospects within the state. With Fielder now joining a group that includes Quentin Hale, Honor Fa’alave-Johnson, and Danny Lang, the Trojans have successfully landed four of the top 14 local players in this recruiting cycle. According to recent reports, the coaching staff remains highly competitive for several other top-tier local talents.
High-Quality Commitments Across Key Positions
The current class highlights a focus on quality over quantity. Despite having only seven total commitments—among the fewest for any top-10 team—the roster additions are impressive. The Trojans have already secured pledges from two top-100 defensive backs and two of the nation's premier wide receiver prospects.
Current USC Trojans Commitments:
- Wide Receivers: Quentin Hale (4-star, No. 57 NATL), Eli Woodard (4-star, No. 328 NATL)
